"'Yuva'- the title of the film came about the last. The character came several years back, based on the life of a student of Osmania University", recalls Mani Ratnam the director of the film. The film 'Yuva' has three views. One is, when something happens around us, be it good or bad, everyone has a way of reacting to it. Some of us see how it can be useful to us. And if it can, make the best of it and get on. Some others think that they can step in and help, chip in, contribute, be proactive. They believe in the power of one. That each make a difference if one puts ones mind to it. And the last view says about certain others, probably the majority of us, especially in this time and age, that believe that if we take care of ourselves the world will take care of itself.

Story: The story revolves around three heroes actually. Ajay Devgan (Michael) plays a Ph.D student in this film. He gets invited to USA. He hates injustive and takes active interest in politiecs and feels that the young people should question themselves first before blaming the system. According to him an individual can make a difference to the world. He doesn't believe in marriage. Another hero is Abhishek Bachchan (Lallan), he neither fears anyone nor pays a heed to what the world thinks . He is a youth growing up with the wrong side of the law for whom fulfilling his need is more important that evaluating the write or wrongs of life. Living for himself, he feels he owes nothing to any one except himself. And of course Vivek Oberoi (Arjun) plays one of the three major leads. He is a cool dude and an engineer by profession. His aim is to enjoy life by shifting his base to USA. He has never had to work hard for anything in life. He believes that if he takes care of himself the world will take care of him. Kareena Kapoor plays Mira, a completely deglamourised girl, who fell in love with Arjun after meeting him in a discotheque. She wants to get married and settle down in Kanpur. Rani Mukherjee (Shashi) plays opposite Abhishek Bachchan. She wants him to give up crime. They have differences but both cannot life without each other. Esha Deol (Radhika) plays opposite Ajay Devgan. She is a French teacher. All she wants is to marry Michale. Three yuva with three different outlooks towards life but three are having strong belief in themselves and their will power. But how the story turns into a climatic end, better you watch it on silver screen.

Performance: As per performance is concerned, the pair of Kareena and Vivek demands special mention. Kareena plays the role is totally deglamourised. And for the first time, she appears with no makeup except for kohl in her eyes. Very small role, Kareena has played so far. But she depicted the character of Mira as a fun loving girl who does not want to be commited to any relationship with complete perfection. Vivek-Kareena pair is simply fabulous. Ajay Devgan played beyond expectation. Once again he proved his acting skill of which genre. Abhishek Bachchan performed his best. Rani Mukherjee is irresistable. Esha Deol played well. l Esha Deol and Ajay Devgan look convincing as a pair.

Overall: Perhaps 'Yuva' is is biggest multi-starrer, released in this summer. Mani Ratnam is back with bang after his five years absence from the Hindi film circuit. This film is his second venture in Hindi cinema after 'Dil Se'. The Tamil version of the film is 'Ayutha Ezhuthu' It's a must watch film for everybody. The way, Mani Ratnam has captured the pulse of Kolkata is simply brilliant. It is the film, accident-interrupted. Vivek Oberoi shot the sequence after he met with the motor bike accidetn on the Vidyasagar Setu. It also remains to see whether Mani's magic works wonder to Abhishek's career or not. Over all A. R. Rahman's music, Mani Ratnam's direction and three heroes and three heroines' heartiest effort combines to make the film sucessful. We are hopeful.
